Area law enforcement has confirmed the worst about the incident in Canadaigua tonight. For that reason, I have made the decision to remove the videos of the accident from Oppositelock. This is my decision and mine alone. If you have a problem with it, I am the one you have a problem with.
If you would like to see the video, you can still see it at pretty much any place on the internet. If you would like to re-post it to Oppositelock, please ensure that there is no visible thumbnail on the front page. We simply do not need to see this tragedy every time we scroll through this website.
I would also like to note that this is a one-time decision by me, and not an example of wrongdoing by those who did initially post the video.

I think it's in the best interest. You could tell something horrible had happened just from the way he was laying there. It reminded me a lot of the video of Senna and Ratzenberger. Now to see how NASCAR handles the situation.

No problem with it at all. I went to delete it after I read the confirmation and you had redacted it seconds before. I completely agree with your action.

Fair enough, my heart goes out to the deceased's family

it's hard to tell what happened, but after watching the video over on deadspin, I can see your reasoning, i can't tell if the engine was revved prior to because, they were far away, anyway, I see your reasoning and,I do agree, it's gross and I don't need to see it.

Are all my notifications on everything from my start now gone for good or will they come back?

I wish there was another angle, he may have got his foot caught.

Did you delete it? If you deleted it, they are gone. I tried to send it back to your personal blog, in which case they would still be there, but I don't know if that happened before or after you took your own actions. I can't delete a post, I can only remove content and remove it from Oppositelock's front page. Only a user, like you, can do that.

I still have no clue as to why he was running around the track in the middle of a race, that seems dumb on the part of Kevin, I do agree it looked like tony could have avoided him, and (well obviously) should have, but what is the reason for running though a race.course, while a race is going? That makes no sense to me.

I just deleted the post but now all notifications from everything else are gone also. Replies and so forth from all my other non deleted posts are gone.

I just found the text below on other site. I remembered hearing something similar to this in the past. The engine revving could have been Tony Stewart pulling the car out of gear or, maybe he did try to fishtail the car. I am sure it will come out in the investigation.
To start, sprint cars don't have a transmission. They are either in gear or out of gear. The cars used to have an in\out box (sometimes clutch-actuated), but now days, there is a t-handle on the end of a cable that runs down to the rear end. The gears are in the rear end and if you pull the cable, the gears disconnect. The gears in the rearend determine how fast the car can go and how hard the engine has to work to drive the wheels. A plate on the rearend can be removed and the gear sets can be changed to match the length of a given track (and its conditions)

That's... Incredibly strange. Don't think that has anything to do with my side, but maybe deleting something edited triggered the glitch? You should email Gawker IT and inform them of the bug.

I'm no dectective, but if they look at the telemetry (providing sprint cars have telemetry)and he was pulling it out of gear and he couldn't do anything about it. it would seem like more of an accident that wasn't Tony's fault and he than if he fishtailed the car would seem like too much of a coincidence to where I would think Tony wanted to hurt Kevin.

I'm not that worried about it, I don't go back in the history often enough for it to be an issue.

Too bad Jalopnik editors didn't think the same when they posted the new about the driver's death on the front page.
You're absolutely right to remove the video. For one, it's out of the respect for the driver and his family, and those kind of videos tend to invite heated arguments based on armchair investigations when there's official investigation going on.

I honestly don't know if they have telemetry or not. I would think if it's available/legal Tony's team would probably have it, they are definitely one of the biggest and best funded sprint car teams out there.
